Smallworld OMS Work Order Processing
ATSI was selected to perform feature/attribute edits, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), and Project Management services for a large electric transmission/distribution company to maintain their Smallworld OMS (outage management system) GIS. The client’s OMS is a comprehensive GIS application that is utilized to efficiently manage all electric power devices and reduce power outage response times. The OMS is a GIS application that houses all of the client’s electrical utility system components: (poles, overhead/underground conductors, transformers, fuse cutouts, capacitor banks, recloser banks, sectionalizer banks, switch banks, stepdown banks, voltage regulators, etc.) as well as customer information. All components are spatially accurate, contain viable attribution, and are overlaid onto road network vectors, which also reside within the system, to create an interactive GIS application. In order to maintain the system’s integrity, it must be continually updated each time a component has been added, removed or altered in the real-world. ATSI is responsible for performing and maintaining all modifications and ensuring the GIS vectors maintain spatial accuracy, contain the correct feature attribution and proper topologies necessary to keep the OMS application running properly. With this very labor intensive task at hand, the client also tasked ATSI to perform all aspects of Project Management and QA/QC for this assignment to ensure project completion in an efficient and timely manner.
Remote Access
ATSI is currently performing all Smallworld OMS GIS project tasks remotely, utilizing easy to configure applications such as: VPN (Virtual Private Network), and Citrix Network Neighborhood. ATSI’s staff remotely accesses the client’s server, software and data from several distant office locations, avoiding frequent travel that would otherwise be necessary to perform an assignment of this magnitude. The ability to remotely access applications also allows the client to avoid having to provide additional office space and equipment at their facility for key OMS personnel. Using the additional functionality of web conferencing and email correspondence, ATSI is able to collaborate with the client at a moments notice, thus avoiding costly and redundant business travel. Being a large proponent of remote access, ATSI is able to provide customers with a very cost effective business plan for any application.
GIS Asset/Document Management
ATSI used GIS technology to integrate thousands of spatially related documents into a single efficient application for a large steel manufacturer. This application provides team members, managers and decision makers with simple and efficient access to all of their documents such as drawings, specs, photos, vendor cut-sheets, and operations & maintenance manuals from a desktop computer or mobile device. The system has the ability to track asset data such as maintenance records, purchase orders, inventory tracking and vendor information with the capability to also generate work orders. Early estimates show that the GIS technology implemented by ATSI for simple asset/document management and retrieval will save an end user/team member 25% of their time used searching for these critical documents.
Relational Database Management System
ATSI designed a fully functional custom RDBMS (relational database management system), to assist project managers and end users with the location and maintenance of important project documents for a large heavy industrial project. The system utilizes MS Access in conjunction with custom designed tables to track vital project information. The system also offers a hyperlink feature that allows end users quick access to project documents, such as drawings, specifications, reference drawings, photos, etc. and has the functionality to generate reports with the push of a button in several different formats; including MS Excel spreadsheets and PDF. The application was customized using Visual Basic coded user tools, graphical user interfaces, and custom SQL (Structured Query Language) queries to locate important project documents. The custom SQL queries can be accessed by the end user with buttons
located on the interface, or by inputting keywords into the system.
Relational Database Management System/Legacy CAD Data Conversion
ATSI designed a fully functional custom RDBMS (relational database management system) to assist a large industrial equipment company with managing and updating vital customer information, product information, product inventory, production schedules, historical project calculations & quotes, and legacy CAD drawings. The RDBMS, which is a MS Access application, was designed to provide a direct link to the customer’s existing accounting software, allowing for quick updates to customer account information. The system also offers a hyperlink feature that allows end users quick access to all documents in the system, and has the functionality to generate reports with the push of a button in several different formats; including MS Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Word. The system utilizes custom SQL (Structured Query Language) queries and can be accessed by the end user with buttons located on the interface, or by inputting keywords into the system. To accompany the RDBMS application, ATSI also assisted the customer with the conversion and updating of their existing legacy CAD drawings using the AutoCAD Raster Design Suite, creating. hybrid raster/vector CAD drawings to better suit their needs, and to eliminate the storage space of large-format, hard copy drawings.
